Mr. Archie Auston Gibbs, 58, of the Pine Hill community outside Hamburg died Tuesday, May 18, 1999, at the Beverly Health Care of Hamburg. A life-long resident of Ashley County, he was a retired timber worker and a member of the Quinn Chapel A. M. E. Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Jean Howard Gibbs; his parents, Perry and Juanita Tucker Gibbs; and a brother, Cardell Gibbs. Survivors are his wife, Donna Gaston Gibbs of Hamburg; five sons, Archie Gibbs, Jr., of Hamburg, Andrew Simpson of St. Louis, MO, Tony Perry of Orlando, FL, and Perry Williams and Zachery Gibbs of Crossett; eight daughters, Andrea Faye Raigans and Audrey Damerick of Little Rock, Sherry Watson of Malvern, Romona Hightower of Atlanta, GA, Tara Lyle of Memphis, TN, Nekka Huggins of Hamburg and Charmaine Childress and Malana Gibbs of Crossett; three brothers, Warfield "Tap" Gibbs of Crossett, Bernard Gibbs of Jena, LA, and Larry "L. W." Gibbs of Las Vegas, NV; 25 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 22, in the Quinn Chapel A. M. E. Church with Rev. A. L. Owens officiating. Pallbearers were Michael Scott, John B. Gibbs, Rance Haynes, Elvia Webb, Troy Webb, Earnest Thompson, Gary Hollins and Billy Taylor. Honorary pallbearers were Cliff Hawkins and Lee Fred Brown. Burial followed services at the Pugh Cemetery, directed by Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg.
