Mr Dempsey R "Doffie" McDonald, 78, of Hamburg, died Friday, June 14, 2002, at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe, La. A native and life-long resident of Hamburg and a veteran of the United States Army, he was a member of the first forestry class at UAM and completed his degree at the University of Florida in 1949. He then returned to Hamburg where he worked as a forester for the Crossett Company and Georgia Pacific Corporation for 38 years, retiring in 1987. A member of the First Baptist Church, he was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Susan Grizzle McDonald, four sisters and five brothers.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Alyce McClerkin McDonald; three sons, Randy McDonald and wife Shirley of Monticello, Jack McDonald and wife Debbie, and James McDonald and wife Freida; one daughter, Susan McDonald Stanley and husband Mike, all of Hamburg; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and three very special friends, Madie Smith, Jack and Juanita Marks, all of Monticello.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 16, at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Bobby Pennington and Rev. Klois Hargis officiating. Pallbearers were O. L. Darling, Richard Williams, Charlie Farmer, Joe Mack Sullivan, Willard Noble and Keith Ladd. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Carl Locke Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church.
Burial followed services at the Promise Land Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg. Memorials can be made to the First Baptist Church, P.O.
