ROCKFORD, Ill. -- Noland Gardner Cole, age 91, of Rockford, Ill., formerly of Smithville, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006, at the Swedish American Hospital.

He was born Oct. 14, 1914, in Smithville, the son of Henry and Mattie Maud Erwin Cole. He was united in marriage to Hazel Modell Guerin Cole on June 20, 1942, in Smithville. He was a schoolteacher in Arkansas until 1950 and later retired from Sunstrand Aviation, where he worked as an inspector and sawing machine man. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Rockford.

He is survived by his wife, Hazel Modell Cole, of Rockford; and one son, Bruce Noland Cole, of Tustin, Calif.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Flora Winters; and six brothers, his twin Owand Cole, Eslie Cole, Elbridge (Sam) Cole, Albridge (Joe) Cole, Truman Cole and Kenneth Cole.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, at Higginbotham Chapel in Walnut Ridge. Officiating will be the Rev. Charles Helms with burial following at New Hope Cemetery in Smithville.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Higginbotham Funeral Home in Walnut Ridge.

Pallbearers will be Charles W. Helms, Ryan Helms, Mark Davis, Jim Cole, N. Ray Campbell, Joe Helms and Rick Fuller.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Service Inc. of Walnut Ridge.

ROCKFORD, Ill. -- Hazel Geurin Cole, 91, of Rockford, Ill., formerly of the Smithville and Imboden area, died Wednesday, July 26, 2006, at Rockford.

Hazel was born on Dec. 26, 1914, the daughter of Elijah Watson and Lila Maude Smith Geurin. She was united in marriage to Noland Cole on June 20, 1942, at New Hope. He preceded her in death on Jan. 29, 2006.

Both Hazel and Noland were school teachers in the Smithville and Imboden communities for several years before moving to Rockford. Hazel was employed as an inspector with Sunstrane Corp. until she retired. Hazel was a member of the Temple Baptist Church at Rockford.

Survivors include one son, Bruce Cole of Tustin, Calif.; four sisters, Oneida Tucker of Springfield, Mo., Hester Helms of Batesville, and Fay Campbell and Jean Griffith, both of Pocahontas; one brother, Ancel Geurin of Carthage, Mo.; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were under the direction of Olson Funeral Home of Rockford Tuesday in Temple Baptist Church.

Local arrangements are under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Service.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Higginbotham Funeral Chapel at Walnut Ridge with Charles Helms officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery near Smithville.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time in the funeral home.
