LIMING, Florence - On November 19, 1851 there was born at Versailles, Ill. to J.P. and Frances Liming, a baby girl, Florence Liming. She was hardly out of her infancy when she was left fatherless and about the same period of her life, at the age of five, cataracts began to cover her vision and not-withstanding the best surgical care and attention, sight failed completely by the time she was 17. Before blindness completely set in she began her education at the Illinois State School for the Blind where she stayed until completed. Besides being taught to read and write and the other school studies she was instructed in fancy work, knitting and sewing. So as to take advantage of that philanthropist, Mrs. Mitilda Ziegler, who about ten years ago started a paper for the blind, practically free, only a normal subscription so it could be mailed, Miss liming mastered the Braille point print which had come in use since she had acquired her education. This feat was of the same character of one of her age learning shorthand, the two styles being as much disimilar. At the age of 20 she united with the Christian church of Clayton, Ill. and 17 years ago with the Garfield Baptist church. She was an indefatigable church worker. She took a great delight in flowers and birds but during the last few years since mastering the new print she has the use of so many books from various blind libraries and her newspaper that she did not pay so much attention to them. Her mother, known in this vicinity as Grandma Shinn, preceded her to the better land over two years ago. Miss Liming is the first to die of seven children who reached adult life. Two brothers died in childhood. Her sisters are Mrs. America Giddings of Flora, Ill.; Mrs. May A. Brown of Altoona, Kas.; Mrs. Ollie Cox of Thayer, Kas.; Mrs. Clara Haswell, in whose home she lived over a quarter of a century, of Garfield, Ark. Her brothers, A.W. Liming, Adair, Tex.; J.M. Liming, Kiefer, Okla. and Wm. Shinn of Bartlesville. During the last few years of her life the infirmity of deafness was added to her affliction and since August 1913 the disease, cancer or tumor of the stomach, held her in its deathly grip and its agonies were never relieved except by opiates. She bore her final illness with a patience that would shame one not handicapped as she was. She passed peacefully away at 6:30 p.m. January 6th. Interment was beside her mother's grave at the Ruddick cemetery on January 7th, Rev. C.F. Siler of Newtonia, Mo., her former pastor, conducting the funeral service which was held at the Garfield Baptish church.
