On Monday evening September 10th at 7 o'clock occurred the death of Mrs. M.S. Highfill at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J.F. Mitchell. She was born in Perry Co., Tennessee Aug. 22, 1847. She was married to Hezekiah Highfill February 10, 1860 in Missouri. They moved to Benton county, Ark. in 1869, settling where the little town of Highfill now stands and there made their home until the death of Mr. Highfill five years ago. She professed faith in Christ at the age of 13 and united with the Baptist church and ever lived a conscientious christian life. Mrs. Highfill had been confined to her room for nine months. She was a patient sufferer, never complaining, and ever thoughtful for those caring for her. She realized her condition was hopeless and that only a few more days were her's here on earth; but she had the faith that cast out all fear. She is survived by six children: Mrs. J.F. Mitchell of Gentry; Dr. J.E. Highfill, Cave Springs; C.D. Highfill, Ardmore, Okla.; Frank Highfill of Siloam Springs; Mrs. Sherman Lefors of Gentry and Mrs. J.N. Covey of Little Rock; also two brothers and one sister. Short services were held at her home Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 conducted by Rev. Collier of this place and Rev. J.A. Scroggins of Decatur. The remains were taken to Highfill where funeral services were held in the church where deceased had long held her membership and the body was laid to rest beside that of her husband, surrounded by a host of relatives and friends.
