John F. Monday, whose death occurred at his home in the Morning Star community southwest of Bentonville Saturday, July 13th, 1929 following a long illness, was born August 5th, 1858 in Knox County, Tenn. but later moved with his parents, W.R. and Sarah K. Monday of Kentucky and Tennessee, to Lincoln County, Tenn. He was married August 5th, 1880 to Miss Mary Smith of Fayetteville, Tenn. To this union eight children were born, one of them dying in infancy. Those surviving their father and their mother, who died at Melrose, N. M. in 1913, are J.W. and Jim Monday and Mrs. J.O. Bryant, Gentry, Ark.; Mrs. A.A. Mears and Miss Minnie Monday of near Bentonville. Mr. Monday is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Will Cashion of Fayetteville, Tenn. and by 19 grandchildren. After leaving Tennessee the Monday family lived in West Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. Three years ago they moved to Louisiana, later coming to Northwest Arkansas and locating near Bentonville, hoping that a change of climate would improve Mr. Monday's rapidly failing health. Funeral services for Mr. Monday were held at the family home Sunday afternoon, July 14th, conducted by the Rev. R.S. Hayden, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, Bentonville and interment made in the Highfill cemetery, this county.
