Mary Emma Cole Turner, of Orange Beach, Alabama, died Sunday evening, January 23rd at her home. Born July 11, 1915 in Dover, Arkansas, she moved to Muskogee, Oklahoma in 1935 where she resided for 67 years. Mrs. Turner was the widow of Lt. Colonel Doyne Lynell Turner, Commanding Officer of the 458th Bomb Squadron, 330 Bombardment Group Stationed in Guam, who was killed as a POW in Tokyo in May of 1945. She never remarried after the loss of her husband, instead concentrating on building a new life with her four-month old daughter, Patricia Ann Turner.


In addition to her husband, Mrs. Turner was preceded in death by her parents, Frances Missouri and William Erwin Cole: sisters, Thelma Cole Criner, Ina Mae Winesburg, And Iva Faye Snapp; and brother, John Leonard Cole. Survivors include her daughter Patricia Ann Howard and son-in-law, Mike Howard of Orange Beach, Alabama; grandsons Richard Michael Howard, Jr. of Shanghai, China; John Lynell Howard of Atlanta, Georgia; and William Patrick Howard of Gulf Shores, Alabama; a sister-in-law, Guila Grace Turner of North Little Rock; and three nieces, Margaret Ann Morgan of Emory, Texas; Betty Kai Hogue of Fort Smith; and Mary John Rogers of North Little Rock.
