The Calico Rock Progress, Calico Rock, Arkansas, June 6, 1941:
Brief Illness Fatal to Well Know Citizen
John T. Byram, well known citizen of Melbourne, died at a Batesville hospital Saturday, following an illness of two weeks. Mr. Byram was born and reared in the Flat Rock community, seven miles east of Calico Rock. He had been in the mercantile business at Melbourne for 19 years. Previous to engaging in the mercantile business he taught in the schools of the county for several years. He served as head of the Calico Rock, Salem and Oxford schools. He served ten years as chairman of the Izard County Board of education and at the time of his death was chairman of the Izard County Draft Board and chairman of the Board of Stewards of the Melbourne Methodist Church.
He married Miss Elsie Gentry of Iuka, to which union four sons and one daughter was born.
Funeral services were held at Melbourne Monday morning, the Rev. R. A. Robertson, pastor of the Methodist Church at Melbourne, officiating, assisted by Rev. J. W. Johnston, pastor of the Methodist Church of Calico Rock. Interment was in Flat Rock Cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, sons; Lynn, Lester Conrad and Neill and a daughter, Mary Rose Byram, all of Melbourne; two brothers, Arthur of Flat Rock and Steve of Oklahoma; two sisters, Miss Miranda Byram of Flat Rock and Miss Sallie Yandell of Branson, Mo.
