Mrs. Betty Ann Smith Dies at Age of 81
Mrs. Betty Ann Smith aged 81 died in a Little Rock hospital, Friday night June 4 following a brief illness. She entered the hospital about three days before her death having suffered a fracture of the leg Tuesday of last week.
Funeral services conducted by Rev. J. E. Williamson were held at Flat Rock church, Monday, with burial in Flat Rock Cemetery, under direction of the Hall Funeral Service.
Pall bearers were: Bill Killian, P. L. Wayland, T. J. Watson, H. H. Ducker, H. T. Whitfield, and Lester Morgan.
Mrs. Smith spent practically all her life in the vicinity of Pineville, which was her home until her death. In 1889 she was married to James H. Smith who preceded her in death by seventeen years. She united with the Methodist Church at Flat Rock when she was twelve years of age.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Edith League of Little Rock, Mrs. LaVada Massey of Little Rock and Mrs. Ruth Andrews of Byron, Ill.; three sons, Columbus Smith of Rock Falls, Ill., Luther and Thurman Smith of Pineville. Besides her children, her passing is mourned by a sister, Mrs. Mary Hutson of Pineville; nine grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.
Note: When she married, her name was listed as Bettie A. Crews; however, in some places, her parents' surname is spelled Crew.
