OXFORD - James Oren McCurley, 69, of Oxford died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006, in Calico Rock.
Born March 12, 1936, in Wideman, he was the son of James Ewell McCurley and Helen Irene Evans McCurley. His profession of faith and baptism were at age 18. He was a mail carrier for Oxford, Wideman, Pineville and Calico Rock. He served in the U.S. Army for three years and in the National Guard and Army Reserves for 25 years. He was united in marriage to Carolyn Blevins on Feb. 14, 1983.
Survivors include his wife; a stepson, Greg McCoach of Oxford; a stepdaughter, Angie Steer of Mountain Home; four brothers, Jerald McCurley, Kenneth McCurley and Keith McCurley, all of Wideman, and Teddy McCurley of Oxford; a sister, Kathleen Montgomery of Viola; and four step-grandchildren, Steven Steer of Texarkana, Beth Hutcherson and Jesse Steer, both of Mountain Home, and Michael Steer of Springfield, Mo.; and a step-great-grandchild, Andrew Steer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant brothers; a nephew, Michael Montgomery; and a niece, Kelli Franks.
Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Sunday at Flat Rock Cemetery with David Jennings officiating. Arrangements were by Eddies Family Funeral Home in Calico Rock.
Pallbearers were Toby McCurley, Monty McCurley, Doug McCurley, Scott McCurley, Brent McCurley and Emery Weems.
Honorary pallbearers were J.A. Ward, Alfred Grice, Darrell Dall, Jack Grimmett, Charlie Townsend and Michael Denny.
