Our Heavenly Father saw fit to call Missionary Katherine Jane Sledge Walker from labor to reward on July 20, 2008. Katherine Jane Sledge was born on October 14, 1950 in Fordyce, Arkansas. She was the daughter of the late James Sledge and Nettie B. Sledge.
Young Sister Sledge was saved in her youth in a revival at the Fordyce Church Of God In Christ. She was a graduate of the J. E. Wallace High School ,and the Weeder Washington School of Cosmetology of Pine Bluff, Arkansas. She later married Elder Frank E. Walker on April 14, 1972. To this union, four children were born.

Missionary Walker was a member and First Lady of the Marks Memorial Church of God in Christ in the Farindale Community. She served faithfully beside her husband and held positions of Sunday School teacher and the Prayer and Bible Band teacher. Her involvement with the Church was extended to the district where she was a chairlady of the District YPWW Department under the leadership of Superintendent Murphy Walker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Dorothy Ann Brazil, and a brother, Richard Sledge. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of thirty-six years, Pastor Frank E. Walker; four children, Tony Walker of Fordyce; Ralph Walker of San Antonio, Texas; ReShana Bolridge (Marvin) of Little Rock; and Eric Walker of Fordyce. Seven brothers, Butch Thompson (Bennie Jean) of Las Vegas, Nevada; James Sledge, Jr.(Ann), of Fordyce; Bobby Sledge (Diane) of Little Rock; Arthur R. Sledge (Lisa); Jerome Sledge (Judy); Jeff Sledge (Brenda); and Donald Sledge all of Fordyce, Arkansas. One sister, May Frances Williams (Ronnie) of Austin, Texas; an adopted sister, Judy Matthews of Little Rock; another sister-in- law, Joyce Sledge of Hot Springs; six grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, numerous friends as well as the Marks Memorial Church Of God In Christ Family.

1st Lady Walker will lie in state at Marks Memorial C.O.G.I.C in the Fairndale Community on Friday, July 25, 2008, from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

The body will lie in state on Saturday, July 26, 2008, in the sanctuary of Trinity Faith C.O.G.I.C in Fordyce, Arkansas one hour prior to service time.

A Celebration of her life and final tributes will be shared at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 26, 2008, in the sanctuary of Trinity Faith C.O.G.I.C where her brother-in-law Superintendent Thomas Walker is the pastor.

Eulogies will be shared by her brother Pastor Arthur R. Sledge, pastor of Kedron C.O.G.I.C in Rison, Arkansas and Bishop Donnie L. Lindsey, Sr., Prelate, Arkansas Second Jurisdiction, Church of God in Christ, Inc.

The committal service & earthly resting place will be in Mt. Tabor Cemetery in Fordyce, Arkansas.
