**obituary
Calico Rock Progress, Calico Rock, Arkansas, June 7, 1922:

"Uncle Perry" Benbrook Dead

"Uncle Perry" Benbrook of this place, one of the community's best known and most highly respected citizens, died at his home last Monday morning, June 5th, after an illness of four or five weeks of abscess of the lungs.

"Uncle Perry" had been troubled with internal ailment of the nature stated for some time, but it was not considered in a critical stage until a month or more ago, having been confined to his bed the greater part of the time since then. His condition was thought to be greatly improved last week and it was thought he would be able to rally and regain strength, thus avoiding an operation, which was thought necessary for several days preceding his death. When his condition took a more serious turn the latter part of last week it was thought best to operate, in hope that his life might be saved; the operation being performed Sunday, but owing to the advanced stage of his ailment, his condition continued on the decline and death came Monday morning at about 10:30 o'clock.

Mr. Benbrook was born in this county August 8, 1860, the most of his life having been spent near Wideman, where he was engaged in farming until twelve or fourteen years ago, when he moved to Calico Rock. He has been a member of the M. E. Church, South, for over thirty-five years, during which time he has constantly lived a most devout Christian life. Those who were most closely associated with him in the daily walks of life knew him as a friend and neighbor of the true and ideal type, one who always stood for the moral betterment of his town and community, unbiased in his beliefs and a most loyal and devout husband and father. He possessed unusually energetic qualities and was regularly engaged at his daily pursuits until forced to confinement by his recent fatal illness.

Deceased was an active member of the Masonic Lodge and also of the Royal Arch Chapter.

Besides his wife and two brothers, Uen and Henry Benbrook, and two sisters, Mrs L. L. Bailey and Rena Franks, the deceased is survived by one son and three daughters --- Frank W. Benbrook of Wideman, Mrs H. S. Hanks of Mt. Olive and Misses Ota and Fannie Benbrook of this place.

Funeral services were held at Flat Rock church Tuesday morning, conducted by Rev. D. H. Holland. Burial took place in the Flat Rock cemetery, being in charge of the Masonic Lodges of this place and Pleasant Grove.
