Billie L Toney
October 4, 1922 - October 20, 2007
Billie L. “Bill” Toney, 85 departed this life October 20, 2007. Bill was born October 4, 1922 in Peacock, Texas. The eldest son of Joe S. and Mattie E. (Bilberry) Toney, who preceded him in death, as did one brother D.H. Toney.
Bill is survived by one sister Nettie Atwood of Oxley, Arkansas, three brothers: Joe S. Toney of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Vannie Toney and Jim Toney both of Oxley, Arkansas, a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews mourn his passing.
Bill was a Christian, a member of the Oxley Baptist Church, and a World War II Veteran. Bill Served with honor in the U.S. Combat Engineers during the Invasion of the Philippines and served in the Army of Occupation of Japan after the end of World War II. He worked for the Leonnard Corp in Fort Worth, Texas for 35 years as Chief of Heavy Equipment Division and as a ranch manager in San Saba, Texas.
After retirement Bill returned to his farm in Oxley, Arkansas. He was a charter member of the Oxley Volunteer Fire Department and an active member until his death. He was also an active member of the VFW and American Legion in Searcy County.
Bill was a kind and generous man with a ready smile and a story if you had time to visit, sometimes a bit of well meant advice came with a story.
A memorial service will be held after cremation by Roller Coffman Funeral Home of Marshall, Arkansas. The memorial service will be at the Oxley Baptist Church on Saturday, October 27, 2007 at 1:00 pm with Eddie Lee officiating. Burial will bein the Kuykendall Cemetery by Roller-Coffman Funeral Home.
Please no flowers, memorials will be to Oxley Volunteer Fire Department or to the Searcy County Veteran’s Association.
