HARDIN -- Clarence W Harper, 85, of the Hardin community, died Thursday at the White Hall Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born, Sept 19, 1920, at Sheridan, a son of the late Allen Lee Harper and Ora Virginia Gregory Harper. He was reared and educated at Sheridan. He served in the Army during World War II. He moved to Pine Bluff in 1945, where he worked for 18 years as a mechanic for Smart Chevrolet. He went to work for the Pine Bluff Arsenal in 1963, retiring in 1979 as a millwright. He was a member of Hardin Baptist Church. He was also preceded in death by a brother Coy Harper; and three sisters, Gladys Murphy, Mary Coats and Willie Hill. Survivors include his wife Scottie Fern Green Harper, whom he married on February 15, 1941, at Sheridan; two sons, William C. Harper Jr of Janesville, Wis, and Albert Harper of Pine Bluff; a brother, Paul Harper of Pine Bluff; two sisters, Marie McDonald of North Carolina and Ida Faye Woodfield of Long Beach, Miss; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 10 am Monday at Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors with the Rev Bob Harper officiating. Burial will be in Lost Creek Cemetery near Sheridan.
