Martin Bruce (Buck) Smith, age 87, of Ola, died Thursday, November 1, 2007 at the Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock. The son of Armor and Vida Snell Smith, he was born April 17, 1920, in Adona, AR. He married Mary Sue Nelms on June 25, 1981, at Benton. He was a police officer at the Arkansas State Hospital for 18 years. He was a second degree Mason, an honorary member of Fraternal Order of Police and a member of the Adona Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Lottie (Helms Smith; and two brothers, J. B. Smith and Ralph Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Sue Smith of Ola; daughter, Paula Wright and husband, Lynn, of Benton; stepdaughter, Donna Carr and husband, Jess, of Bixby, OK; stepson, Bill Childs and wife Gayle of Broken Arrow, OK; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was held at 2:00 p. m. Monday, November 5, 2007, at Ola United Methodist Church with the Rev. Eddie Howell officiating. Burial will be at Fowler Cemetery at Adona by Humphrey Funeral Service. Memorials may be made to Ola First United Methodist Church, c/o Rev. Eddie Howell, 32 Pebble Brook Drive, Conway, AR 72034.
