Grover C. Sanders Dies in Maryland Army Camp

Pvt. Grover C. Sanders, a native of this community, but for the past several months of the U. S. Army, died suddenly at Ft. George G. Meade, Maryland, Saturday night, July 10th. He passed away unexpectedly, having suffered a hemorrhage of the brain as he and soldier companions were walking along a company street of the camp. He collapsed from the attack about 11 p.m. and died a few minutes later.

The body arrived at Calico Rock on Wednesday’s westbound train, escorted by Sgt. Truman R. Hicks of Stephenville, Texas, who is stationed at Ft. Meade. The funeral was held Thursday at 2 p.m., at Wayland Arbor, interment being in the cemetery there. Services were conducted by Rev. Carl Davis of Elizabeth and Rev. J. C. Wilcox of this place. A large gathering of relatives and friends attended the sad rites.

Deceased was 36 yeas of age. He was born and reared near Dolph, being the son of Mrs. Nancy Ann Sanders and the late John Sanders. He entered the army in May 1942. Shortly after his induction he was transferred to Ft. Meade and assigned to a Signal Pigeon company, remaining in that branch of service until his death.

He is survived by his wife; mother, Mrs. Nancy Ann Sanders of Dolph; seven brothers, Noah, Arthur, Columbus, Roy, Ernest, Homer and Tim Sanders, all of Dolph; two sisters, Mrs. Effie Dockins of Dolph and Mrs. Ada Griggs of Black Oak, Ark.; a half-brother, R. L. Sanders and a half-sister, Mrs. Annie Hively, both of Calico Rock.
