Well Known Citizen of Rodney Dies Wednesday

James W. Southard, aged 75 well known citizen of Rodney, died at his home Wednesday, following an illness of only a few days.

Mr. Southard had been a resident of the Rodney vicinity practically all his life and was one of the community’s most highly respected citizens. He had been a leader in church work for the past 50 years.

Surviving members of his family include his wife, Nancy Southard; three daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Matenzio of Ridgecrest, Calif., Mrs. Stella Dillard of Calico Rock, and Mrs. Edna Fondren of Los Angeles, Calif.; five sons, Floyd of Fairfax, Mo., Herman of Calico Rock, Mason and Wilson of Rodney and Nelson Southard of Kansas City, Mo.; three brothers, John Southard of Quincy, Miss., Tom and Frank Southard of Norfork, Ark.

The funeral was held at Rodney today (Friday), with Rev Y. Whitfield of Pineville and Rev. Carl Davis of Elizabeth conducting the services. Burial was in Wayland Arbor Cemetery with the Roller Funeral Services in charge.
