*POUND CEMETERY OVERVIEW

Pound Cemetery
Yell County,
Arkansas

Pound Cemetery is very interesting. The very few that aren't related were other early Danville pioneers. The Pound family (specifically Thomas Lovick aka T.L Pound) were the early owners/publishers of the Danville Democrat newspaper which later became today's Yell County Record. The cemetery is located on what was private farm land till the city of Danville got permission to clean up the area surrounding the cemetery. Cows had damaged some stones that were repaired and a new fence was also built around it.

The little cemetery sits in the middle of a cow pasture and is normally locked because the same access road is used to get to the city water treatment plant. Upon your visit you will probably need to check with the City office (479) 495-2013 to make sure that you will be able to get in. In order to get to the cemetery you turn North on 5th street and go all the way down to the railroad tracks. You cross the tracks and make a left where you will come to the "cable gate" and cattle guard. Once you cross the cattle guard you will follow the road around to the Y and take a slight right. Continue to follow the little dirt road (kinda bumpy by the way, so a truck or SUV is best) and you will drive between 4 chicken houses and the cemetery is nestled in a grove a trees to your left. (Thanks to Carmen Adair for this description/location)
