SHERIDAN — David L. Tharpe, 77, of Sheridan died Thursday at St. Edwards Hospital at Fort Smith. Born Dec. 8, 1929, at Pine Bluff, he was a son of the late William Joseph Tharpe and Felcia Myers Tharpe.
He served in the Navy as a geologist surveyor during the Korean War and retired from Entergy. He was a member and deacon at First Baptist Church at Sheridan. Survivors include his wife, Geraldine Weaver Tharpe (married 10 May 1952); one son, Greg Tharpe of El Dorado Hills, Calif.; one daughter, Jerri Ryan of Fort Smith; and nine grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home at Sheridan with Sam Adkins and the Rev. Mark Lindsey officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service today. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 1201 S. Rock St., Sheridan, Ark. 72150.
