Richard D. “Rick” Fortier, 50, of Conway, Arkansas, died Thursday, January 8, 2009, at Conway Regional Health Center. He was born February 21, 1958, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mrs. Michel (Mary Jane Snider) Fortier, also of Conway.

Rick received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Indiana University-Bloomington. In l981, Rick and his father, Michel Joseph Fortier, co-founded Fortier, Incorporated in Conway and Rick served as Executive Vice – President until his death. He was also a board member of Arkansas Oil Marketers Association.

Rick had a passion for sports and was an avid fan of the Indiana Hoosiers and the Arkansas Razorbacks. He loved to play golf and on many afternoons he could be found playing a round of 18 holes at Centennial Valley Country Club.

Rick is survived by his loving wife of twenty-two years, Barbara “Gerri” Fortier; sons Richard David Fortier II; Eddie Hoyt; Nick (wife Michelle) Hoyt; and Clifford Hoyt all of Conway; daughters Mary Catherine Fortier and Rachel Hoyt of Conway; Elizabeth (Mrs. Ray) Akin of Morrilton; his father, Michel Joseph Fortier of Conway; a brother Michel Joseph (wife Gayle) Fortier, III, of Punta Gorda, Florida; sisters, Sharon (Mrs. Charles) Sexson of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Suzanne (Mrs. Andrew) Cunningham of Germantown, Tennessee; Patricia (Mrs. Richard) Maguire of Conway; 5 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 7-9 p.m., Sunday January 11, 2009 at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday in the chapel of Roller-McNutt Funeral Home with the Rev. David Barron, Rev. Wayne Brown, and Brother Brian Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in Goat Bluff Cemetery at Hollis, Arkansas, with Jeff Fortier, Joe Sexson, Nick Hoyt, Eddie Hoyt, Clifford Hoyt, and Quinton Berry serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the salesmen of Fortier, Incorporated, and Brannon Castleberry.

Memorials may be made to the Smith Springs Freewill Baptist Church Building Fund, 40 Smith Springs Rd. Morrilton, AR 72110 or the Arkansas Chapter of American Cancer Society.
