Saint Boniface Cemetery
Perry County,
Arkansas

Feb 28, 1935 - Feb 8, 2010

Joyce Cannon Baker, 74, passed peacefully from this life at Morrilton Healthcare in Morrilton on Feb. 8, 2010.

She was born on Feb. 28, 1935, in Osceola, the only child of Carl Cannon and Inez Garner Cannon.

They preceded her in death, as did her former husband and father of her children, Forrest L. Baker.

She is survived by two sons, Frank Baker of Millington, Tenn., and Bart L. Baker and his wife, Angela, of Clinton; and three daughters, Shirley Bowen and husband Robert of Conway, Rachel Stephens of Paris and Jenny Roller and husband Ed of Morrilton.

She is survived by six grandsons, Seth Baker, Eli Baker, Hunter Stephens, Cliff Elliott, Henry and Max Bowen; by two granddaughters, Sonny Elliott and Abbey Stephens; and by two step-granddaughters, Ashley and Meghan Roller.

She is also survived by her aunt, Cleet Anderson of Tupelo, Miss., and by a number of friends and relatives.

A graduate of Osceola High School and Hendrix College, she was an independent and thoughtful woman who read widely, appreciated the blessings of friends and family, liked to laugh and dearly loved the Catholic Church.

She was a devoted fan of Notre Dame football.

In her younger years, she enjoyed politics and served as a delegate to the Arkansas Constitutional Convention in 1970.

She lived for many years in Rising Star, Texas, where she was co-owner of the Rainbow Café with her good friend, Robin Reeves.

She loved hosting her grandchildren on summer visits.

Joyce was cherished and respected by her children and grandchildren, and her presence on this earth will be deeply missed.

A simple service for family and friends will be held at 2 p.m. today at Saint Boniface Catholic Church in Bigelow.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Milligan and his staff and the staff at Morrilton Healthcare Center and at Arkansas Hospice for their compassionate care of Joyce in her final days.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Heifer Project International.

Arrangements by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.
