James Norman Flood, 31, of Black Hawk, SD, died Aug. 13, 2004, as a result of an automobile accident near Scenic, SD. He was born Jan. 30, 1973 in West Plains, MO.
He was active in many sports but his love was for track and cross country. His determination in life also showed on the track when he lost a shoe in a relay and did not look back or stop, but instead kept going. Jimmy and his little brother, Brian, were like one running together, best being remembered as "Big Flood" and "Little Flood." Together this bond of brotherhood kept them together doing many things they loved.
Two years after high school Flood served two years in the U.S. Army. After being medically discharged in 1995, he began working with his hands building things ranging from furniture to crafts and cars to homes. He had a gift for taking a piece of wood and turning it into something great. He could envision and engineer a home in his head then put his hands to work that would amaze someone. All of this talent he gathered over the course of his life from his step-dad, Gene, his father, Allen, and his Papa Duane. Mr. Flood's last dedicated job was working for Brad Dewitt with handcrafted Log Homes.
One of Flood's passions besides working with his hands was the love for the outdoors. If he wasn't working, you could find him in the woods calling in the "big one" or fishing at the lake or pond. His love for the woods and water would land him his first "big" fish at age 2, his first deer at age 12 and his first turkey at 15. Each year he added more to his collection. Yet he was most proud to have his Grandma Peggy and his father, Allen, alongside him.
In 1998 Flood found the biggest catch of his life, his wife, Kim. On Oct. 11, 1998, they had their first daughter, Madison. They knew love, but Madison brought a new meaning to their relationship. On July 27, 2002, they were united in marriage at Chapel in the Hills. Their family grew by one more on July 5, 2003, with the birth of their son, Hunter Gary Allen.
Survivors include his wife, Kim; daughter, Madison; son, Hunter "Bubby" of Black Hawk, SD; mother, Nova and step-dad, Gene Morgan of Pomona, MO; mother-in-law Laurie Wudtke of Rapid City, SD; father, Allen Flood and step-mom, Deb of West Plains, MO; one brother, Brian, and wife, Jodi, of West Plains, MO; a sister, Christy 'Sissy' Morgan of Pomona, MO; two step-sisters, Shanna Lamb of West Plains, MOand Milissa Battles of Chattanooga, TN; brothers-in-law, Scott Owens and fiance, Stephanie Walker of Rapid City, SD; J.R. Owens of Fort Polk, LA; Jessie and Courtney Wudtke of Offut AFB, NE; grandparents, Duane and Peggy Flood of West Plains, MO; and grandmother-in-law, Marge Minkel of Rapid City, SD; great-aunt, Marge of West Plains, MO; Clifford and Maggie Morgan of Franklin, NC; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins, including an aunt and uncle, Ken and Jeanette Flood of Rapid City, SD.
He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Gary Wudtke; maternal grandparents, Leste and Ruby Ellison; great-grandparents, Granny and Pa Baty; and his grandmother, Christine Morgan.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Aug. 28 at Sturgeon Cemetery, Fulton Co., AR.
