Captain Charles E Royston was the son of General Grandison D Royston and Mary C Bates & was born in Washington, Arkansas. In the latter part of the war he became an aide-de-camp to General Churchill in the Trans-Mississippi Department & operated in Louisiana, Texas & Arkansas. He surrendered at Shreveport, Louisiana on April 7, 1864 & returned home to his farm. He married Miss Mary M Andrews in 1869 & they had six children. In 1882 Mr Royston was chosen to fill the unexpired term of James W Williams who had been serving as Hempstead county sheriff. Mr Royston and his wife were members of the Presbyterian Church in Washington, Arkansas
