Born in Liberty, Van Buren County, Arkansas
Killed in Action when the USS Houston CA-30 was sunk in the Battle of Sunda Strait off Java on March 1, 1942. At the end of WWII when the Navy officially declared him dead, his parents erected this memorial stone in the Old Liberty Cemetery near the farm where he grew up.
