August 10, 1989

Alfred Garrett, Jr., age 57 of Mt. Pleasant Died Tuesday, August 1, 1989 at the White River Medical Center in Batesville. He was a shipping and receiving clerk for ConAgra Frozen Foods. He was a Baptist in faith.

Survivors include: his wife, Ada May Griggs Garrett, four daughters, Rita Kay Tyson of Mt. Pleasant, Robbie Neil Qualls of Jonesboro, Carolyn Ruth Hames of Brandon, Mississippi and Rebecca Sue Crook of Everton; one half brother, Joe Hodo of Calico Rock; and seven grandchildren.

The pallbearers were the Military in charge.

Services were held Friday, August 4, 1989 at the Dolph Baptist Church at 2 p.m. with Clergyman Elden Hellums officiating. Burial was at the Wayland Cemetery at Dolph.

Ada May Griggs Garrett, daughter of the late Phillip and Ada Sanders Griggs was born May 15, 1938 in Calico Rock. She died December 16, 1998, in Batesville. She was 60.

Mrs. Garrett was united in marriage to Alfred Garrett, Jr., January 3, 1957 in St. Louis, Missouri. To this union five daughters were born. She retired from White Rodgers after many years of dedicated service.

Survivors include four daughters, and sons-in-law, Rita and Scott Tyson of Mount Pleasant, Robbie and Steve Qualls of Jonesboro, Carolyn and Lenord Hames of Mount Pleasant and Becky and Homer Crook of Harrison; one granddaughter who was like a daughter, Autumn and Mark Williams of Little Rock; four sisters, Cliffie Sneed of Mount Pleasant, Tress Wood of Caraway, Barb Holland of Kennett, Missouri and Less Layman of Granite City, Illinois; one brother, Ward Griggs of St. Louis, Missouri; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. She as preceded in death by her parents, husband and one daughter, Barbara Garrett.

Funeral services were held December 18, 1998, at the Dolph Baptist Church with Frank Wann officiating.

Pallbearers were Scott Tyson, Steve Qualls, Lenord Hames, Homer Crook, Mark Williams, and Ken Medlock.

Interment was at Dolph Baptist Cemetery under the direction of Eddie’s Family Funeral Home in Melbourne.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the American Heart Association.
