Parents were James P and Margaret Purcell

Around 1844 William moved to Arkansas settling South West of Lake City. where he married Sarah Clark in 1845. The Clark's settled in Greene County east of the present location of the Purcell farm in 1846.

In 1864 William was in the 7th Missouri Cavalry CSA. and was in combat during Prices Raid in Missouri. The majority of his life he was a farmer.
