DAVIDSON, Alfred — Died at his home near Boonsboro on the 18th of February, Father Alfred Davidson, aged 74 years, 1 month and 6 days. Mr. Davidson was born in Dickson county, Tennessee the 11th day of January 1813. In early life he was married to Miss Martha Powers who survives him as his widowed wife. Shortly after their marriage he professed a hope in Christ and was baptized into the fellowship of the Baptist church in his native state and was soon ordained a deacon in his church in which office he faithfully served for a period of nearly 54 years. In the year 1839 Deacon Davidson immigrated to the state of Missouri with his wife and 2 adopted children, a boy and girl. The boy is the present county judge, Hon. H.P. Greene. The girl is the wife of Mr. Oakly Caudle living near Springdale. Deacon Davidson resided in Missouri until the year 1865 when he came to NW Arkansas, locating at Fayetteville and has made this county his home ever since. During his long connection with the church he was a faithful member and an efficient officer. His illness was of 3 months duration; though a great sufferer he bore it patiently. Died at a good old age, full of hope. In his death the church has lost a valuable member, the community an estimable citizen. He was a kind husband and an affectionate father to the adopted orphans. We feel his place cannot be filled in our midst with a better man. The writer conducted the services at his grave in the presence of a weeping congregation of relatives and friends. Peace to his sleeping dust; our loss is his eternal gain. G.P. Hanks.
