Well Known Citizen Dies at Age of 81

Jesse Franklin Drown, aged 81, one of this sections best known citizens, died at his home near Pineville, Sunday.

Mr. Drown was born in Green County, Kentucky but had been a resident of Arkansas since boyhood and practically all of his life was spent near Pineville. He was married in 1886 to Miss Rachel C. Guthrie of this vicinity to which union fifteen children were born. Mrs. Down passed away in 1930. Mr. Drown followed farming nearly all his life and was considered one of the most successful farmers of the county. He was an early advocate of improved farm practices and took the lead in putting improved methods in operation. He was active in affairs of his community and was a powerful influence furthering moves for community good. He was the first farm demonstration agent for Izard County. Mr. Drown was a close observer of events at home and abroad and kept well informed on affairs touching on the general welfare of the county.

Funeral services were held at Cross Roads Church Tuesday afternoon, with Rev. Y. Whitfield of Pineville officiating. The Odd Fellows Lodge of Pineville, of which deceased was a member had charge of services at the graveside. Burial was in Cross Roads Cemetery, under direction of the Roller Funeral Service.

Survivors include seven sons, Tom Drown of Cross Roads, Stanley of Pineville, Steve of Calico Rock, Roy of Batesville, Frank of Oklahoma City, Okla., Troy of Ardmore, Okla., and Charles of California; six daughters, Mrs. Nora Lovelace and Mrs. Cora Jennings of Cross Roads, Mrs. Maude Majors, Mrs. Emma Morgan and Mrs. Ercie Hutson of Pineville, and Mrs. Elsie Forister of Wild Cherry.
