James R. "Jim" Young, 58, a resident of Bismarck, died Friday, May 14, 2010, at St. Joseph's Mercy Health Center in Hot Springs.
He was born August 14, 1951, at Morrilton to Robert James and Evelyn Vivian Flewellen Young. He retired in 2006 from the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, Vicksburg District after 34 years of service. He was the current president of Arkansas Trail Riders Association and was a member of the Bismarck Church of Christ. He was a devoted and loving son, husband, father, and grandfather and his entire life was centered around his love of God, church and family. He also loved hunting, camping, and his horses. He was preceded in death by his father.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, June Young of Bismarck; two sons and daughters-in-law, Clayton and Amanda Young of Benton and Adam and Elizabeth Young of Sherwood; his mother and step-father, Evelyn and Darrell Duncan of Nimrod; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Nancy Young of Birta; a sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Charles Wilbanks of Dover; two grandchildren, Henry Young of Benton and Carter Young of Sherwood; and other relatives and friends.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at Shinn Chapel with Mr. Charles Smith officiating. Burial will be in Nimrod Cemetery at Nimrod under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.
Active pallbearers will be Charles Stanford, Ronnie Wilbanks, David Wilbanks, Richard Kimery, David Kimery, and Ray Black. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike, Joe, and Tim Bruck, Terry Etzberger, and Larry Fields.
Visitation will be from 6 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the St. Joseph Mercy Clinic Benevolence Fund for Cancer Patients, 1455 Higdon Ferry Road, Suite B, Hot Springs, Arkansas 71913 or the American Cancer Society, 126 Lakeview Circle, Russellville, Arkansas 72802.
