Rev. M. C. Burton Passes Away Monday

Rev. Memory C. Burton, well known minister and life-long resident of Izard County, died at the home of a son, Houston Burton, near Pineville, Monday afternoon, February 17.

The funeral was held Wednesday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Y. Whitfield in charge. Burial was in Wise Chapel Cemetery, near Cross Roads.

He was born near Wideman, where he spent the early part of his life. He resided near Pineville for over forty years. He became a Christian early in life and later was ordained to the Gospel ministry in the Baptist Church.

Rev. Burton's first marriage was to Miss Sophronia Vowell. Of the four children born to this union, three survive – Mrs. Nora Richardson of Wenatchee, Wash., A. H. Burton of Dolph and Mrs. Josie Langston of Schell City, Mo. His second marriage was to Miss Arlou Foster. The one child born to this union died in infancy. His third marriage was to Mrs. Della Coilier. Two children were born to this union, one, Noel Burton of Tulsa, Okla., surviving. Rev. Burton was married the fourth time to Miss Ella Mae Johnson. Of the four children born to this union, two daughters, Mrs. Ruby Lovelace of New Castle, Ind., and Mrs. Ada Mae Wilson of Aurora, Mo., survive.

Also surviving, are 23 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchild and a host of friends to mourn his passing.
