Obituary for Larry Gene Owens:

Larry G. Owens, 50, of McCune, Kansas, passed away at 12:25 a.m. Saturday at the Hospital District No. 1 of Crawford County in Girard, Kansas, after a long battle with cancer.

He was born in Pineville, Arkansas, to Thomas "Junior" and Mary "Katherine" (Whitfield) Owens. He attended area schools, graduating from Calico High School in 1973. Later he received his Associates Degree in Criminology through Labette Community College in Parsons, Kansas, in 2001.

He served his country in the U.S. Air Force, as a lead investigator in police security. He was honorably discharged after serving 20 years and retiring as a Master Sergeant.

He married Traci L. Miller on Dec. 11, 1987, in Wichita, Kansas. She survives at the home.

He was a member of the Pineville Cumberland Presbytetian Church. He attended the Nazarene Church in McCune. He also was a former city councilman of McCune.

Larry was very active in the baseball program in McCune, both as a coach and as a supporter.

Additional survivors include: Daughters: Crystal Bond of Leavenworth, Ks., Katherine Grace "Katie" Owens of McCune, Ks.; Sons: Brandon Owens of Pittsburg, Ks., Zachary Ledwich of McCune, Ks., Seth Thomas Owens of McCune, Ks.; His parents of Pineville, Ark.; Brother, Kenny T. Owens of Mountain Home, Ark.; Sister, Kathie Grigg of Wideman, Ark.; Maternal grandfather, H.T. Whitfield of Pineville, Ark.; Two grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother Jimmy W. Owens; Maternal grandmother, Nellie Whitfield; Paternal grandparents, Teddy and Carrie Owens.
