Leon Blankenburg
Funeral services for Leon DeWitt Blankenburg, 86, of Mountain Home will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 11 at the First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Bruce McClendon officiating. Military honors will be provided by the North Central Arkansas Veterans Council with honor guard by Ozark VFW Post #3246. Mr. Blankenburg died Saturday, October 7, 2006, at Hospice House. Visitation was from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 10 at Kirby-Boaz Funeral Home Chapel.
Leon DeWitt Blankenburg was born September 22, 1920, at Winthrop, Iowa, to Franklin and Leona Timson Blankenburg. He married Erma Smith on September 1, 1946, at Osceola, Arkansas. Mr. Blankenburg worked for the Internal Revenue Service for 15 years. He spent 26 years in the Army and served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. Mr. Blankenburg lived in Mountain Home since moving from El Paso, Texas, in 1985. He was a member of the Retired Military Association and the First Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by three sons, James and Brad Blankenburg, both of West Tawakoni, Texas; Kevin (Valerie) Blankenburg of Edmond, Oklahoma; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two brothers, Arley Blankenburg of Iowa and Franklin Blankenburg of Arizona; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
Burial with military honors will be in Pineville Cemetery. Arrangements are by Kirby-Boaz Funeral Directors.
