Mrs. Gable Whitfield Passes Away Monday
Mrs. Marie Gable Whitfield died at her home at Pineville, Monday morning, at the age of 58. She had been in declining health for the past few years.
She was born a few miles west of here, in Baxter County and all her life was spent in this section. She was married to Young Whitfield of this vicinity, to which union one daughter and five sons were born, the daughter passing away several years ago. Mrs. Whitfield was one of the community’s most highly respected women and had lived a devout Christian life uniting with the Cumberland Presbyterian Church early in life. During her more active years she was a constant church worker and was a ever ready to help her neighbors and friends, all of who fell a personal loss in her passing.
She is survived by her husband, Rev. Young Whitfield; five sons, Herman and Howard of Calico Rock, William of Pineville, Asa of Pangburn, Ark., and Herron of Dolph; two brothers, George Herron of Checotah, Okla., and David Herron of California; also several grandchildren.
Funeral services, held Tuesday at 2 o’clock at the Pineville Church, where conducted by the Rev. G. W. Thompson, assisted by Rev. D. R. Robertson of Mt. Olive. Interment was at Pineville, the first burial in a plot set aside for a new cemetery at that place.
