Arthur Barry Potwin, 68

CALICO ROCK--Arthur Barry Potwin, son of the late Arthur Simms Potwin and Wingfield Fern Barry Potwin, was born Dec. 15, 1936, in Portland, Ore. He departed this life Saturday, Nov. 12, 2005, at his home in Jordan at age 68 years, 10 months and 28 days.

He was united in marriage to Rea Childress Sept. 11, 1981. Barry served in the U.S. Army, retiring as a major after 24 years service. For many years, he owned and operated Potwin Cotton Co. in Greenwood, Miss. After retirement, he and Rea moved to Jordan. He loved to fly and was an expeienced pilot, Barry was of the Presbyterian faith.

Barry leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 24 years, Rea Potwin of Jordan; three daughter and sons-in-law, Winky and Matthew Newman of Madison, Miss., Vicki and Larry Smith of Fayetteville, Ga., and Holly and Steven Ellis of Vicksburg, Miss.; three stepchildren, Teresa Goforth of Ripley, Tenn., Roy Carter of Calico Rock and Don Carter and wife, Lyn, of Springdale; seven grandchildren, Amanda Newman, Matthew Newman, Daniel Smith, Ashford Smith, Audrey Smith, Steven Elllis and Shelton Ellis; many stepgrandchidlren; one sister Patty Ellis of Greenwood; one special aunt, Inez Potwin of Remond, Wash.; and a host of other relatives and good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Winkly Potwin.

A funeral was 10 a.m. Tuesday at Calico Rock Funeral Chapel with Wayne Wood officiating. Visitation was 5-8 p.m. Monday at the chapel. Burial was at Pineville Cemetery under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home. Pallbeares were Matthew A. Newman, Matthew Newman, David Schinkal, Danny Woods, Steven Ellis and Larry Smith. Honorary pallbearers were Daniel Smith, Jim Ed Carter, Cody Myers and Steven Ellis.

Memorials may be made to Calico Rock Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Kids for Christ progaram or a charity of choice.
