May 3, 1943 - May 22, 1974
James B. Cross, 31, of 1252 Gallup St., Camden, was shot to death about 10:06 a.m. Friday at his residence, according to Lt. Virgil Brown, acting Chief-Of-Police. Brown said a suspect was taken into custody at the scene of incident but that no formal charges had been filed yet. Cross was pronounced dead on arrival at Ouachita Hospital after receiving a blast from a .410 gauge shotgun, police said. The incident is still under investigation, Brown said. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Proctors Chapel. Burial will be in Bethesda Cemetery under the direction of Proctors Funeral Home. Mr. Cross was a member of the Assembly of God Church. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Genia Walker Cross; one daughter, Crahristie Ann Cross of the home; two stepsons, William Robert Cross and Kenneth Clyde Cross, both of the home; two stepdaughters, Lynn Dickey and Dawn Dickey, both of the home; mother, Mrs. Juanita Reynolds of Camden; father, William R. Bennett of Houston, Tex.; three brothers, Robert Cross of Shreveport, La., Hershel Cross of Camden and Gary Cross of Camden and a grandmother, Mrs. G. A. Cross of Camden. (Camden News - May 20, 1974)
