Cecil Carl Powell of Violet Hill, son of the late William B. Powell and Sarah Elizabeth Sams Powell, died Monday, September 21, 1992 in the North Arkansas Life Care Center in Horseshoe Bend at the age of 86. He was born October 12, 1905 in Oxford.

Powell was married to Clarice Sellars and to this union three children were born. He later married Bertha Blevins Box. He spent his working years as a self-employed farmer. He was a Mason and a member of the Church of Christ.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Bertha Powell of Violet Hill: one daughter, Doris Small of Little Rock; one son John W. Powell of Wiseman; six grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Clarice; one daughter, three sisters and three brothers.

Services were held Wednesday, September 23, 192, 2 p.m. in the Fairview Baptist Church in Violet Hill with Church Crow officiating.

Pallbearers were Granville Todd, Bobby Bookout, Don Powell, John R. Powell, Franklin Powell and Bobby McCollum.

Interment in the Violet Hill Cemetery in Violet Hill under the direction of the Howard Funeral Home in Melbourne.
