William A. Tanner, Jr., Lt. Cmdr, (Ret) USN, 74 of Bigelow, passed away April 16, 2010 at Conway Regional Medical Center after a long illness. William was born April 29, 1935 in Long Beach, Ca. to the late William A Tanner Sr. and Eleanor Tanner.
Mr. Tanner served 21 years in the United States Navy, including a tour on the USS Oriskany durning the Vietnam War, and a tour of duty at Eritrea, Ethopia on top of a mountain on an Army base, among other places. After retirement, he worked at Booze, Allen Hamilton in Washington D.C., owned Fred Patee Printing Company, and retired as an instructor at Southern Techinal College (Remington College).
Mr. Tanner is survived by his wife of 52 years, Belva (Kreiling) Tanner; five children: Donna (David) Binz, Mark Tanner, James Tanner, William (Janet) Tanner III and Audrey (Mike) Anderson; ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; one sister, Susie Weldon of Bartlesville, OK., two recently found brothers, James Sorenson and Robert Greiss.
Funeral services at Wye Mountain United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Lanita Daniels. Burial will follow at Wye Mountain Cemetery. Arrangements by Griffin Leggett Funeral Home of Conway.
