Killed by Zim Ott. 2nd grave in the Ott Cemetery. Tradition says that Zim caught John "visiting" with his wife, Mary Katherine Gillespie, Zim shot and killed John who is buried at the feet of John Ott. Zim traded the double barreld shotgun to his brother John for a horse, and then left the area. Supposedly he went south in Arkansas, now and then riding the train back to Cotter to visit his family and leaving before the law knew he was in town.
