FAYETTEVILLE — Bobby Jean (Ehrlich) Yandell, 66, of Fayetteville died on Friday, May 29, 2009, at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, after two years' battle with ovarian cancer.

Bobby was born Oct. 10, 1942, in Houston, Texas, to Albert Ludwig and Daisy Bea "Dixie" (Ely) Ehrlich. She grew up in Houston, and on May 28, 1965, there married Brian Yardell, who brought her back to his ancestral home of Northwest Arkansas; she always felt he brought her to Eden. They visited Eureka Springs on their honeymoon, and later bought and restored a house there. She loved the Ozarks and the people she met in Fayetteville, where they raised their two children. The day before her death, the couple celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary.

Bobby was the first in her family to graduate high school, and at age 35 as the mother of two children aged 5 and 9, undertook a bachelor's degree in education at the University of Arkansas, from which she graduated magna cum laude in 1980. She went on to earn a Master's Degree + 30, the highest degree in the field of education that one can earn without pursuing a doctorate or specialist's training. Bobby helped to guide the lives of thousands of children in Northwest Arkansas as a fifth- and sixth-grade teacher, first at Greenland Elementary School in Greenland, and later at Westwood Elementary School in Springdale. She was reminded of her many successes as a teacher by the loving expressions of thanks and admiration that she received from colleagues and students during her final illness.

A lifelong gardener, Bobby designed beautiful gardens at her own and friends' homes, and eventually became certified as a Master Gardener. She loved to read, to spend time with family, and to travel, and with her family and friends toured the United States, Alaska, Ireland, England, Scotland, France, Belgium, Italy, Canada, Mexico and Peru, among other places.

Bobby leaves a large community of friends and family who loved her, including her husband, Brian Edwards Yandell; her two children and their spouses, Kay Yandell and Sean Teuton, and Jay and Brenda Yandell; her five grandchildren, Tucker Yandell, Preston Yandell, Diana Yandell-Teuton, Xavier Yandell-Teuton and one grandchild arriving in September; and family friend Ann Fowler, all of Fayetteville; her brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Rose Marie Ehrlich; her nephews and their spouses, Larry and Rachel Ehrlich, Jeffrey and Alison Ehrlich, Gregory and Michelle Ehrlich, and Daryl and Janice Ehrlich; and her 13 grandnieces and grandnephews, all of Houston.

A graveside memorial service will be arranged through Moore's Funeral Chapel in Fayetteville, 479-442-7314, and held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 6, 2009, at Fairview Memorial Gardens Cemetery ("The Duck Pond Cemetery"), 1728 E. Mission Blvd. in Fayetteville, 479-521-8701.

Afterwards, we will gather at Zion Christian Union Church, 4984 W. Wedington Drive in Fayetteville, 479-442-3583, where Bobby was a member, for a potluck Celebration of Life.

Family and friends remember Bobby as a selfless, loving and indefatigable woman, fiercely dedicated to doing right and helping others, and as someone with a unique gift for making every moment, even a difficult moment, as joyous, loving and just plain fun, as it could be. All are invited to join us as we celebrate the love of this truly exceptional woman, as that love enriched our lives and spread throughout our community.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 901 N. University Ave., Little Rock, 72207.
