Pearl Ann Thornton, 98, of Mound Ida, died Thursday, January 14, 2010, in a local hospital. Born August 19, 1911, in Guthrie, Oklahoma, to John Preston and Katie Kimberling Sword, she was a member of Piney Baptist Church. She was predeceased by her husband, Cecil C Thornton; son, Kenneth J P Thornton; two brothers, Sherman Sword and John M Sword.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Brenda Thornton of Royal and Howard and Jarene Thornton of Hot Springs; two daughters and sons-in-law, Katherine and Arthur Hughes of Royal and Louise and Doyle Moore of Bryant; three sisters, Verna Gaither of Little Rock, Edna Lou Frazier and Ruby Lavender, both of Hot Springs; twelve grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are 1:00 pm Monday at Piney Baptist Church with Reverend Joel Moody and Reverend Larry Catcher officiating. Pallbearers will be Donnie Thornton, Brian Moore, Monty Thornton, Damond Thornton, Vince Thornton, Rob Thornton, Kelvin Hughes and Mendel Hughes. Honorary pallbearers are Arkansas Hospice staff, Montgomery County Nursing Home staff, Dora Verville, Gene Coombe, Florence Macon, Beth Irwin, Jan Irwin, Vicki Martin, Debbie Robinson and Erin Schultz. Burial will be in Lowe Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Piney Baptist Church, 3150 Albert Pike, Hot Springs, AR 71913.
