Calico Rock Progress, Calico Rock, Arkansas, November 26, 1920:
While baking potatoes in an oven in the fireplace Tuesday, Mrs. Ollie Bruce of Violet Hill was so badly burned that it is not yet know whether she will recover. She was sitting near the fireplace combing one of her children’s hair when her clothing ignited and burned her entire body before the flames could be extinguished. The children attempted to smother the flames with a wagon sheet, but they were so small their efforts were in vain. A Mr. Campbell, who was working at a gin nearby ran to her assistance and exceeded in putting out the flames, but not until she had sustained very serious and painful injuries. – from the Melbourne Times.
