STAFF SERGEANT US Army
World War II
Korea
Vietnam
June 30, 1928 - February 9, 1994
Born in Guion, Izard County, Arkansas, USA
Died in Newport, Jackson County, Arkansas, USA
Son of Rex Oakus and Ola R. Tate Grigsby. He was a loving father and a great father-in-law and grandfather. Affectionately known to his family as "Pete" and to his friends and co-workers as "Sarge", he retired from the Army after serving over 20 years. He enlisted during World War II, before he was old enough to legally do so, but remained in the Army, also serving in both Korea and Vietnam. When he retired, he and his family settled back in Jackson County, Arkansas, where he worked for Brown Jordan in Newport, Arkansas until he reached the age of 65. Sadly, he was not able to enjoy his retirement long, as he died only about 6 months later, leaving 4 children, and nine grandchildren to mourn him, as well as many other friends and family members.
