Mr. J. B. Morris, 86, of Newport died Thursday, September 10, 2009 at Newport. He was born August 19, 1923 at Cash, the son of Marion Leslie and Katie Jane (Geaslin) Byrd Morris. Mr. Morris farmed until 1969, then was a carpenter. He was of the Assembly of God belief. Mr. Morris was a United States Army veteran, serving during World War II. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Velma (McKee) Morris; his last wife, Gertrude Foushee Walker Morris; his parents, Marion Leslie Morris and Katie Jane (Geaslin) Byrd Morris Clark; one daughter, Brenda Joyce Morris in 1954; two brothers, Gerald Leslie Morris and Cecil Morris; one sister, Dorothy Morris Rangal; one half-sister, Helen Raye Byrd; and one granddaughter, Becky Morris Norwood in 1993. Mr. Morris is survived by two sons, Bobby Gene Morris of West Monroe, Louisiana and Gerald Leon Morris and wife Dianne of Coal Hill, Arkansas; one daughter, Rita Lois Grigsby of Newport; five grandchildren, Craig Morris, DuJuana Morris Austin, Gregory Morris, Alan Grigsby, Jared Grigsby; six great grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great grandchild.

Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gerald Morris officiating. Interment will be in Gracelawn Cemetery. Visitation is Friday, 6:00-8:00 p.m.
