Per 1910 census John was a hotel proprietor. They managed the Pence House a small hotel located on Main Street, which later burned. Their home the "Bridgeford House" is now a popular Bread and Breakfast in Eureka Springs, AR. Local lore has John referred to as Captain John. He was indeed a Civil War Soldier, but records show he was a Private per Muster M380 roll 2.
