McGerry, Martha was born on the Big North Fork of the White River in Arkansas, March 25, 1823. Moved with her parents to Washington Co, Arkansas and was united in marriage to Matthew McGerry, October 4, 1844. She was the mother of ten children, eight of whom are living. Two sons and one daughter live in California, one in Idaho, one in British Columbia, one in the Choctaw Nation and two daughters in Arkansas. She lived to see them all grown and married, had 31 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren, all living. She professed religion in early life while quite young and united with the regular Baptist church at Shilo and lived a consistent member till her death which occurred the 15th day of May, AD, 1891, aged 69 years, one month and 20 days. She, with her husband, visited their children in California, in 1881, spent some 11 months with them, then returned to Arkansas and lived happily till the 18th day of April, 1889 when she was stricken down with paralysis and was confined to the house and the bed for two years and one month, when she breathed her last. She had all the attention and care that could be given by family friends and physicians.
