STARCK, Emma - {from The Rogers Republican} A horrible accident occurred last Monday at the Starck ranch, four miles east of here, resulting in the sudden death of Miss Emma Starck, sister of Carl A. Starck of Silver Springs, and A.W. Starck of Washington, D.C. The circumstances of the sad affair, as near as we could learn, are that Miss Starck's brother has two young Germans working for him on the ranch and they were preparing to shoot a dog with a pistol, each one wanting to use the weapon. In handing the pistol from one to the other it was accidentally discharged, the ball going through the heart of Miss Starck. Her death of course was instantaneous and painless. Miss Starck was twenty-five years old, highly accomplished, fine looking and a great favorite with all who knew her. Carl A. Starck is well and favorably known in Rogers and Miss Emma was also known to some of our people. Dr. Pennington of Rogers, who was summoned at once reported that the concussion itself had caused death before even the ball had pierced the heart. The funeral took place on the 15th inst. amid a large concourse of friends. Her brother, Arle W. Starck, who is in the employ of the government at Washington City, was telegraphed for and arrived in time for the funeral. Her only sister, Mrs. Ed Gaddis of Hazelton, Ind., was unable to come owing to severe illness.

Mr. Starck had been in poor health for the past year or two and his death was not unexpected. The funeral was held Monday and a number of our citizens were in attendance. Mr. Starck was for a number of years employed in the government service at Washington in the statistics of labor department but usually spent his summers on the ranch here with his mother and brother. He was compelled to give up this work when his health failed a year or so ago and has since been at Vinola. The deceased was born February 22, 1864 at Evansville, Ind. Came to Benton county in 1886 and taught the Osage Valley school several years. Entered the government service at Washington in July of '98. STARCK, Arle W. - Arle W. Starck, who lived at the Starck Wine Ranch east of Rogers and brother of Carl A. Starck, died at his home on last Sunday. He was buried there on Monday afternoon. The Starck family, mother, sister and the two boys, moved to Arkansas in 1887 from Evansville, Ind. They homesteaded 480 acres of land in a body and started the now famous Starck Wine Ranch which at present is one of the prettiest places in Benton county. Mr. Arle Starck, soon after arriving here, settled at Osage Mills and opened a fine school. Shortly afterwards he was appointed to a prominent position until 1902 when his health failed him. He was brought home from Kansas City last summer and has been in the care of his mother and brother until his death Sunday.
