MILLER, W.A. - On Jan. 21st, 1898 our well-known and highly respected fellow citizen, W.A. Miller, living near Pleasant Hill M.E. Church, this county, passed quietly away to a better world. He was a very prominent and influential man in his neighborhood and his death is worthy of special mention. Mr. Miller was of Scotch descent and was born, raised and educated at Bedford, Bedford county, Pa. where his father and grandfather lived before him, and at the time of his death he was in the 62nd year of his age. He was the son of Robert and Elizabeth Miller of the above named locality. In 1861 he was married to Miss Rachael Hildebrand who still survives him after a married life of 37 years. Soon after his marriage they moved to western Virginia, near Wheeling, and from there to Creston, Ohio where the larger part of his life was spent. In search of health and a relief from that remorseless disease - consumption - he finally settled in Benton county, Ark. in 1888, where he continued to reside until his death as stated above. In 1876 he united with the M.E. Church and was an active and zealous member of the same during the rest of his life. As there was no organized church or house of worship at Pleasant Hill when he located there he and his good energetic wife went earnestly to work, under great difficulties, and never ceased their efforts until a church building was erected, a congregation and Sunday school organized and regular preaching secured, all of which have continued ever since and proved a great blessing to the whole neighborhood. When this building was destroyed by an incendiary fire, instead of being discouraged they at once build another which still remains. During the last two years he was a great sufferer in his long, hard battle against disease which finally mastered all medical skill and his emaciated body was laid to rest amid many sorrowing friends and now rests in the shadow of that church which he had built and which serves as a monument to perpetuate his memory.
