Services for Joe McKim, 61, 200 Lakeview Drive, Springdale, who died Oct. 1 at St. Francis Medical Center in Tulsa, Okla., will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the First Christian Church with the Rev. Joel Sweat officiating.

McKim was born March 2, 1918, at Fort Smith. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Seabees. In 1947 he moved from Fayetteville to Springdale and entered business here.

He was the first recipient of the Springdale Jaycees' Distinguished Service Award; was former member and past president of the Springdale Kiwanis Club and former lieutenant-governor of Kiwanis; was former board member and past president of the Springdale Chamber of Commerce; was former board member and past president of the LP Gas Association; and served as a member of the Arkansas LP Gas Control Board under former governors Faubus, Rockefeller and Bumpers; served on the Springdale School Board 11 years, including three terms as president; served 13 years on the Rodeo of the Ozarks Board of Directors; served 10 years as member of Washington Regional Medical Center Board of Govenors, including two terms as chairman, and was a member of the Springdale Rotary Club.

A 25-year member of the First Christian Church of Springdale, McKim taught Sunday school for several years, served on the church board and as deacon, elder and trustee, was building superintendent for the new church building, and was a sponsor of church youth groups.

McKim was preceded in death by his adoptive parents, Paul and Ida McKim. Survivors include his wife, Joe Ellen Comstock McKim of the home; three daughters, Mrs. Don (Kay) Haden of Wetumpka, Ala., Jo Ann McKim of Lowell and Mrs. Ron (Laurie) Moore of Tulsa; his mother, Mrs. Maurine Redmond of Fort Smith; two sisters, Mrs. Mildred Paine and Mrs. Gladys DuCoin of Fort Smith; three grandchildren, Steve, Stuart and Susanna Haden of Wetumpka, Ala.

Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery under the direction of Sisco Chapel. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church or Washington Regional Medical Center.

SPRINGDALE — Jo Ellen McKim, 91, of Springdale died Sept. 13, 2008, at Circle of Life Hospice of Springdale. She was born Dec. 21, 1916, to Kenney and Nora Hays Comstock. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe McKim, her parents, and three brothers, Graydon E. Comstock, Kenney M. Comstock and John J. Comstock.

Survivors include: three daughters, Kay Haden of Jacksonville, FIa.; JoAnn McKim and husband Allen Carney of Prairie Grove and Laurie Moore and husband Ron of Siloam Springs; and one brother, Ira A. Comstock of Virginia Beach, Va.; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, two nieces and four nephews.

She was a member of the First Christian Church of Springdale for 50 years where she was choir director, a member of the choir and the Joyful Ringers Handbell Choir. She served as deacon, an elder and on the Church Board. She was a member of the Washington Regional Medical Center Auxiliary. Jo Ellen was an avid support of the Rodeo of the Ozarks, having attended every year from 1956 to 2008. She supported the Arkansas Razorbacks, holding the same 50-yard-line tickets since World War II. She participated in many other community activities through the years.

Jo Ellen started her working career as a teacher in Chester in 1937. She was the co-owner of Jo McKim L-P Gas Company Inc. and Joe McKim Inc.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Sisco Funeral Chapel in Springdale.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sisco Funeral Chapel of Springdale (www.siscofuneral.com) with the Revs. Wendy Henry Feen and Bill Pettigrew officiating. Burial will be at Friendship Cemetery following the service.

Pallbearers will be Ron Moore, Lance Moore, Tyler Moore, Allen Carney, Dylan Brooks, Stuart Haden and Denny Flynn.

Memorials may be made to Circle of Life Hospice, 901 Jones Road, Springdale, AR, 72762.
