Obituary-
Dwaine Edward Cleveland, 47, died Sunday, January 20, 2002 at Northside Hospital in Atlanta, GA.
He was born January 24, 1954 in Lake Village to Davie Cleveland and Luether Cleveland Byrd. He was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, later moving his membership to St John Missionary Baptist Church in Greenville (MS)while residing there. At the time of his death he was a member of New Beginning Baptist Church in Decatur, GA.
A 1972 graduate of Lakeside High School, he earned his bachelor's degree in 1975 from the University of Arkansas in Monticello and later earned a master's degree in education administration from Delta State University. He taught in Compton, CA and was a coach and teacher at Lakeside Middle School in Lake Village for 11 years before moving to Georgia and teaching at Peterson Elementary School in Atlanta.
He was a charter member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity in Arkansas and Georgia, a poetry publisher and an All-American track and field athlete. He was a Mason.
Survivors include his mother, Luether Cleveland Byrd of Lake Village; his father, Davie Cleveland of Bellflower, CA; daughter Dwainalyn Cleveland and son Merrick Dwaine Cleveland, both of Greenville, MS; a sister Debbie (Earl) Poe of McGehee; four brothers, Dwight (Marie) Cleveland of St Louis, Kimmie (Ellean) Cleveland of Conway, Douglas Cleveland of Stone Mountain, GA & Eddie Lee (Joan) McCloyed of Texas; a great aunt, Hattie Keys of Dermott; four great uncles, six aunts, six uncles and a host of other relatives, fraternity brothers and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 26 at Christian Liberty Baptist Church in Lake Village with the Rev. Jeff Carr officiating. Burial followed in New Cemetery in Lake Village under the direction of Davis Strickland Funeral Home of Dermott.
