Clarence Edward was the son of E.J. and Anna Bigelow Hopkins. He was the husband of Marry Laura Watson. He came to Cotter by stagecoach shortly after graduation from Drury College, Springfield, MO in 1902. He worked on the railroad and then for Mr. Pease's hardware. 1905 Laura and Clarence moved to Cotter. He was active in the community, serving on the school board and superintendent of the Sunday school for the Methodist church. He ran various business including, Hopkins the Happy Homebuilder, Cotter Realty, Hopkins Theatre, Cotter Courier and the Baxter Co. Bank. They are the parents of two daughters.
